Need to get my Evo running and/or sold ASAP!
It’s been a pretty rough road for me with this car and I’m at a point where for many reasons I really cannot put anymore time or money into it. Ideally there’s some way to get the current issue with it fixed and then be able to sell it as a complete running car. I would like to get as much $$ as possible out of it and I’m open to offers/suggestions for repairing or selling the car. Please let me know what you guys think it’s worth in its current condition, or if any shops/individuals think they can get it fixed feel free to contact me. Overall the sooner I can get this car out my garage the better and with as little additional time and out of pocket cost to me as possible. Perhaps someone’s interested in buying it as is or maybe parting it out could net me more $$ than selling it. Let me know what you guys think about the situation and what I should do.
Current condition of the car:
In April of 2013 a large hole appeared in my ERL 2.1 liter sleeved block while chasing a Corvette ZR1 around Big Willow so I began parting out all the aftermarket stuff on my car. I finally finished up putting it back to almost stock and installing a used longblock in early December 2013. Then I towed the car over to FFTEC for them to give everything a final lookover. They were supposed to button up a few loose ends, prime the motor and tune it. After having the car for a few weeks, they finished up the peripheral stuff and then ended up spending many hours reviewing the electrical system which all checked out fine but the car just wouldn’t start. So they determined that the original ECU in the car had some unspecified issue where it was not sending electrical signal to the starter. So I located a used ECU and brought it to them, the car still wouldn’t start. They believed that this ecu along with the keys needed to be VIN coded by the dealership so I towed the car to Capital Mitsubishi in San Jose. After having the car for a few days they told me they were unable to get the ecu coded and they no longer wanted to work on the car because it had aftermarket parts and it wasn’t the original ecu or a brand new one purchased through them. I towed the car back home and it’s been sitting because I was busy with my wedding & honeymoon.
Details and history of the car:
I’m the second owner, the car is clean title in hand, no accidents, all VINS match, it has always been garaged in northern California and is completely rust free. There are some small scratches, tiny dings and chips in the paint from normal driving but not a single dent or anything major. It’s currently registered non operational and would need to be smogged if it’s staying in CA but should pass no problem given it’s stock like setup. It has been to the drag strip twice and to the road course once. It was pretty heavily modified before but has been returned to stock aside from the few mods listed below.
2008 Lancer Evolution GSR
~35K Longblock (good compression, not abused motor which can be verified by KTMotoring that I purchased it from)
~30K OEM turbo
All other drivetrain & components are original and have the same mileage as the chassis. I have never had any issues with the transfer case, ACD or anything else at all aside from blowing up shortblocks. Aside from whatever is currently up with the ECU I believe the car to be in 100% functional and good condition. Only things it needs is the A/C recharged and possibly the rear main seal since FFTEC noted a small amount of oil near it when they primed the motor so that may just have been a spill/drip from somewhere else or it may not to be replaced. Oh and the lug nuts are all mismatched, FFTEC said they wouldn’t dyno the car without a proper full set.
I was very careful while returning the car to it’s current stock-ish condition and during the reassembly replaced all gaskets with brand new OEM, plus FFTEC has reviewed my work and they believe all is good with the car aside from the ECU. All the fluids are brand new Redline or OEM, the engine has been primed with Valvoline VR1 20w50, new NGK spark plugs and more. I have tons of receipts and a spreadsheet showing all of the maintenance and modifications done while I owned the car.
